Scotland and Billy Connolly

“Oh aye...my Father would thrash me every now and then. He'd talk while he did it too! He'd hit me and shout, 'Have ye had enough?' Had enough? Whit kind of question is that? 'Why, Father, would another kick in the balls be out of the question???'”
-- Billy Connolly
Oh don’t you just love Billy Connolly!? He’s such a champion. I think he wouldn’t be half as successful if he didn’t have that deep Scootish accent. I went to Billy’s home country earlier this year, it’s such a beautiful place. Even though the weather was always pretty shocking - with blistering winds attempting to blow you off cliffs and permanent spraying horizontal rain (our bus driver called this weather: ‘atmospheric’) – I had an absolute blast!
If any of you younguns out there ever make it to Scotland you simply MUST go on a bus tour. I went with Haggis and had ‘Rab’ as my tour guide (he insisted his name was Rab not ‘Rob’ with an accent). My travel buddies and I did the 3 day Skye High tour and made heaps of great friends. It’s an awesome tour and I highly recommended it!
But here are a few Scottish tips before you go:
• ‘Loch’ means Lake (like in Loch Ness)
• ‘Glen’ means Valley (like in Monarch of the Glen)
• ‘Haggis’ is Scotland’s signature dish. It's a mix of random meat, oats, herbs and spices all encased in a sheep stomach – sounds gross but you must try it! I’m a supposed ‘health freak’ and didn’t mind it really – just try not to think about what you’re eating!
