Running a Red Light
August 25th 2006 04:18
“A careful driver is one who honks his horn when he goes through a red light.” - Henry Morgan
Hmmmm…. probably not a good idea, considering those on a green light possibly wouldn’t hear your honking until you were literally on top of them. I personally have never completely ran through a red light. Like most drivers, I’ve been at that stage where you see the lights go yellow so you floor it but then they change red at the last microsecond and you’ve only just broken the law. You then hope to God there were no cops around.
Sometimes, late at night when there aren’t any cars on the road, I’ve been tempted to go through a red light. When you look left and right and can clearly see that no-one is coming, you think how easy it’d be to just go straight through, and get home to your warm bed a few minutes earlier. Unfortunately, there could be a cop lurking around the corner, or there could be a red-light camera pointed at you, just waiting for you to break the rules; or worse, there could be a 20 tonne truck ploughing down the road that you didn’t see!
