Aristotle's Views on Monogamy

"Mothers are fonder than fathers of their children because they are more certain they are their own." – Aristotle
Well I’m sure in Aristotle’s time (~300 BC) there was no way of knowing the father of your child if you were a promiscuous woman around 9 months before your baby was born. But nowadays with paternity tests, shotguns, (up until 1974, the law in Texas stated the killing of the lover of one’s husband or wife as ‘justifiable homicide’ so long as it happened at the scene of discovery!) and, in my opinion, probably more monogamy; this quote probably doesn’t hold as strongly as it once did.
I believe that the mother is fonder than the father of her children because she went through the gruelling process of pregnancy and the excruciating pain of childbirth to produce a child in her own womb – and she will therefore share a special bond with her child.

i agree that the mother is at times more fond of her newborn than the father, but im not sure that you have grasped the reasons as to why this is.
instead of the pain she went through causing her to love this child more, focus more on the fact that she has been wacthing her belly and 'baby bulge' grow over nine months, she has heard her babys heart beat and has felt its first kicks within her. But yeh, as you said before the baby is born this 'connection' is already made.
