“They teach anything in universities today. You can major in mud pies.” – Orson Welles
George Orson Welles was a director of film and the theatre, as well as an actor, screenwriter, broadcaster and producer. His first feature film was Citizen Kane in 1941. The funny thing is, Mr Welles only lived till 1985, and I think there have been more weird and random courses being made up for study at universities since then. Has anyone seen how many hundreds of Arts subjects are available nowadays?
At one particular uni you can study, for example, ‘Consumption and Pleasure’ of Anthropology, ‘Witchcraft Paganism and the New Age’ and ‘Sex, violence and transgression’! Not trying to offend any avid art students but far out! The universities do come up with some weird and (possibly) wonderful subjects nowadays don’t they?! I really doubt any of these were available at universities, say, one hundred years ago, there were probably just majors in History, English or Science back then.
