Liar Liar Lawyers

"A Lawyer will do anything to win a case, sometimes he will even tell the truth." - Patrick Murray.
This quote reminds me of the film Liar Liar, starring Jim Carrey. (Which in my opinion was probably his last actually funny – not stupid – movie. I never saw Fun With Dick & Jane but the preview looked really lame.)
The lawyer in Liar Liar (Carrey) has been blatantly lying for years but one day his son’s birthday wish stops him from being able to do so. He ends up winning a ‘big case’ by actually telling the truth - and of course suddenly he develops morals, becomes a better father and gets back together with his wife.
I don’t know much about law, but do lawyers actually straight-out lie? Or do they just manipulate words to support their case? If they were to be found out I’m guessing there would be severe penalties. But is it common knowledge that lawyers do risk it and lie in court? Leave a comment and tell me what you think...
