Grey's Anatomy - The Blunt Cristina Yang
November 10th 2006 23:16
Dr. Meredith Grey: [about her new roommates] They're everywhere. All the time. Izzie's all perky and George does this thing where he's helpful and considerate. They share food, and they say things, and they move things, and they breathe. Ugh, they're, like, happy.
Dr. Cristina Yang: Kick them out.
Dr. Meredith Grey: I can't kick them out, they just moved in. I asked them to move in.
Dr. Cristina Yang: So what, you're just going to repress everything in some deep, dark, twisted place until one day you snap and you kill them?
Dr. Meredith Grey: "Yep."
Dr. Cristina Yang: "This is why we are friends."
Cristina Yang has such a blunt, no beating-around-the-bush personality. She always considers her work as a surgeon and ‘scrubbing in’ on the best operations as number one, and caring for or listening to other people’s problems as second (and she doesn't partake in that very often). This is what makes her a funny character, but in real life she’d probably be a pain. It’s surprising that she is such a ‘cool’ sort of person considering her massive intellect and lack of interest to care for others. What’s even more surprising is that Dr Burke finds enough interest in her to date her. It’s unfortunate that she’s a doctor, because of her lack of people skills. Or maybe that’s why she suits the role? Hahaha.
Cristina’s straightforward, no-bull character can be seen in other quotes such as:
CRISTINA: "We're in an elevator. That's your specialty, right? McDreamy moments in the elevator?"
DEREK: "Dr. Yang-"
CRISTINA: "You know what? For just a moment, I’m not Dr. Yang and you’re not Dr. Shepherd. You’re the guy who screwed up my friend. The guy who drove her to get a dog she can't keep, the dog she only got because her boyfriend lied to her about his wife."
DEREK: "I never lied to her."
CRISTINA: "Yes you are. You know, I know a liar when I see one because I am a liar."
And…
CRISTINA: "You know, [Burke] is acting like I committed a crime. Like my apartment is full of stolen goods. He’s acting like I kept my apartment to hide stolen goods, so I could do illegal organ transplants for money."
And when Meredith had the unfortunate task of holding a bomb in her hands whilst they were inside a patient (I know, believable ay?)…
MEREDITH: "Tell me something."
CRISTINA: "What?"
MEREDITH: "Cristina. I have my hand on a bomb, I’m freaking out, and most importantly, I really have to pee. Just please tell me anything."
CRISTINA: "He told me he loved me. Last night. He thought I was sleeping, but I heard him say it."
MEREDITH: "Burke loves you."
CRISTINA: [to an overhearing doctor] "Mind your own business."
MEREDITH: "He loves you!"
CRISTINA: "Yeah. everybody has problems."
MEREDITH: "Well are you gonna say it back?"
CRISTINA: "Of course not! He didn’t say it to me, he said it to sleeping me! Reciprocity is not required. Besides, he might blow up."
MEREDITH: "Excellent point."
