Geroge Burns' one hundred year quote
April 16th 2006 23:34
"If you live to be one hundred, you've got it made. Very few people die past that age.” – George Burns
This US actor and comedian is playing with us. If you think about this quote for a second you’ll realise that the reason very few people die past the age of one hundred is because very few people live past the age of one hundred! Good one George! When he says ‘you’ve got it made’, this is supposedly because you have less of a chance of dying after you reach one hundred, which is obviously because most people would already be dead! But crikey, I reckon you’d have it made anyway, imagine living for that long? You’d witness so much. Different wars, political leaders, technology, fashion trends, etc, etc.
The life expectancy today at birth is averaged around 80 years for both male and female, with females typically living about 5 years longer. But in the early 1900’s it was around 55 years, so with all our modern technological and medical advances, I don’t think we’re that far off actually reaching the one hundred years average!
It is also interesting to note that George Burns himself lived to just over one hundred years of age...
