Finger-Painting and Wet Benches

"Tell a man there are 300 Billion stars in the universe and he'll believe you. Tell him a bench has wet paint on it and he'll have to touch it to be sure.” Jarger
Ahh… this quote made me chuckle, probably because it’s so true! We know it’s impossible to actually see for yourself if there actually are “300 Billion stars in the universe” but I think that because it is a number as large as this – whether it is of stars in the universe, cells in the body, or atoms in a rubix cube – it just has to be true!
Because the fact of an apparent wet bench is more down to earth (no pun intended) and because we can test right there and then if this statement is actually true then why not touch it and see? I think deep down, we’re all just kids, and want to be reminded of our childhood when we finger-painted in preschool and looked at our hands and smiled when we saw how colourful they were…
