To Err is Human - Alexander Pope

“To err is human, to forgive divine” – Alexander Pope
Alexander Pope was an English poet of the early 18th century, generally regarded as the best of that time. This idiom comes from his work “An Essay on Criticism”. The aim of this biblical quote was to show that all people commit sins and make mistakes. God forgives them, and people act in a Godlike (‘divine’) way when forgiving others.
Other quotes by Alexander Pope include: “Nature and Nature's laws lay hid in night: God said, "Let Newton be!" and all was light.” – written for Isaac Newton, “Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind! Each pray'r accepted, and each wish resign'd...” and one of my favourites: “He who tells a lie is not sensible of how great a task he undertakes; for he must be forced to invent twenty more to maintain that one.”
