Dorothy Sarnoff - The Interview

“Never try to look into both eyes at the same time. Switch your gaze from one eye to the other. That signals warmth and sincerity.” - Dorothy Sarnoff
Here, this singer, speech consultant and author talks about how to direct your gaze during an interview. I don’t know about our readers, but I’m not totally aware of what I do when I go for an interview – I’m pretty sure that I just act as I would when speaking to a friend (although, in a lot more nervous manner!). Do readers believe that Sarnoff is right, and that we should be fixed on one eye, and then the other? Maybe this method is to show that we are focussed and paying attention. Otherwise we could just be staring into space, I suppose.
But I don’t think you should go overboard on the eye-dodging. If you change your gaze too quickly you might look a bit sociopathic! So maybe we should just act what we’re comfortable with.
