Hahaha! I hope this quote was meant to be a bit of a joke, going against the feelgood slogan <insert American accent> “Be Yourself”. I’m sure there are heaps of times when most people try not to act themselves in different situations. For example; there’s the usual shy person who attempts to act confident around strangers, the nerd who tries to fit in by not referring to past chess games when meeting new people, and the classroom pet who acts like a goody two-shoes around the teacher but is a right bully in the schoolyard.
I agree with Thomas Masson. On these occasions mentioned (and many others) I think it’s common to effort to alter one’s personality in the presence of others. It’s not necessarily a bad thing (unless you’re the schoolyard bully) but it may make social interactions easier, and you may well, just… look cooler. Come to think of it, I bet that most people would attempt to deviate from their original personalities every day. What about our readers? Come on, fess up. Do any of you sometimes act differently to be more socially accepted?
