Channel Surfing and the Remote Control
June 26th 2006 01:59
Kid to his Dad as they watch TV: "Dad, tell me again how when you were my age you had to walk all the way across the room to change a channel." - Anonymous
This is a funny one. You sort of expect the kid to ask his Dad about when he was young how he had to walk all the way to school or something. But the joke is that nowadays everything is so handy that we don’t even have to walk the short distance to the TV anymore, totally cutting out any sort of exercise for couch potatoes.
But the age of the remote control has led viewers to just watch anything on the box. “Channel surfing” through the channels, looking for the least painful show just for the sake of it, so we don’t have to bother to get up and actually face the world. My sister does this every afternoon. There’s absolutely nothing on for a 15 year old after school at 3:30pm, yet she’ll sit there and flick through the channels to ‘relax’ from her ‘big day’. Complete waste of time. Come back at 8:30 and watch something you actually want to watch. Then there’s no need for the remote anyway.
