A Billion Chinese Can't Be Wrong: Eat Rice

“A billion Chinese can't be wrong: eat rice.” – Unknown
Hmmm… I think it’s more like 1.3 billion now but the point stays the same. A huge amount of people eat rice, and not just in China either. It’s probably something like over half the world’s population rely on rice in at least one of their daily meals. Rice is good because it fills you up due to its carbohydrate-rich characteristic but eating rice alone (like in most poor countries) wouldn’t be the most nutritional diet. As we all know a balanced diet is a healthy diet, and not having enough fruit and vegies (apart from being extremely boring) wouldn’t be good for your health. Devotees of the white starch may not die of malnutrition from under-nourishment but from too much of the one thing, and not enough essential vitamins and nutrients you get from other food like fruit and vegetables.
Obviously it’s possible to live (and quite healthily) without meat, as many vegetarians will tell you, or live without certain carbohydrates but only having one or two types of foods, I believe, is way more detrimental to your health. Of course it depends on what it is: if you were just to stick to vegies you’d no doubt be fine but just meat or just rice would be a terrible experience, for your tastebuds and for your body.
But unfortunately, millions throughout the world must rely on only rice or potatoes, but millions also die from having no food at all. And as for China, their combining of rice with other foods makes for way better eating than other poorer countries that must depend on this food alone. Thinking about this makes you feel so lucky to be living in Australia, with all different types of yummy, healthy food just flourishing!
